Mission, Vision & Values

Our Mission

First Step House exists to make recovery possible for people who have been pushed to the margins by addiction, homelessness, or incarceration. We provide treatment, housing, and wraparound care that are both evidence-based and deeply humane. Our mission is to help people build lives of meaning, purpose, and recovery.

Our Vision

We imagine a community where recovery is not the exception but the norm. High-quality addiction treatment in Salt Lake City is within reach for anyone who needs it. People living with mental illness or other struggles have not just shelter, but a lasting home.

Veterans and people experiencing homelessness across Utah can count on safe, supportive housing. And the ripple effects are clear: fewer jail stays, fewer emergency room visits, and fewer preventable deaths.

Our Values

Our work is anchored by five values that guide
every decision, program, and relationship:

Integrity

We do what we say we will do, and we hold ourselves accountable.

Transparency

We share openly, invite dialogue, and own our results.

Improvement

We adapt with intention, always looking for better ways to serve.

Inclusivity

We welcome people from every background and confront disparities head-on.

Every treatment bed is a chance to begin again. Your support helps
people rebuild their health, their families, and their futures.
