First Step House exists to make recovery possible for people who have been pushed to the margins by addiction, homelessness, or incarceration. We provide treatment, housing, and wraparound care that are both evidence-based and deeply humane. Our mission is to help people build lives of meaning, purpose, and recovery.
We envision a community where recovery is not the exception, but the norm — and where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
In Salt Lake City and across Utah, high-quality addiction treatment and behavioral health care are within reach for anyone who needs them, including people whose needs are too complex for traditional systems. People living with mental illness or other serious challenges have not just shelter, but a lasting home paired with long-term support. Veterans and people experiencing homelessness can count on safe, stable housing that promotes dignity, health, and recovery.
This vision is made possible by a complete, coordinated system of care — one that integrates healthcare, housing, and ongoing support rather than treating them as separate solutions. Fewer people cycle through jails and emergency rooms. Fewer lives are lost to preventable causes.
At FSH, we commit to being a strong and supportive employer, investing in the people who make this work possible. We measure what matters, learn from outcomes, and continuously improve — so our impact grows, our services evolve, and our community grows healthier over time.
Our work is anchored by five values that guide every decision, program, and relationship.
